PORTLAND, Ore. — ID Experts today announced a new MyIDCare™ identity protection initiative to combat the unique identity theft risks and challenges facing the nation’s veterans and active-duty service men and women.
“The men and women of our military have given so much to us here at home, and we at ID Experts want to do whatever we can to honor that sacrifice,” said ID Experts CEO Tom Kelly. “We’re proud to help defend those who defend us.”
According to the FTC’s Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book, more than 100,000 consumer complaints were lodged last year by military service members or their families, with 66 percent coming from veterans or retirees. Thirty percent of military consumer complaints are related to identity theft, and it’s overwhelmingly the highest complaint of enlisted and officer military consumers.
“Veterans are at particular risk of fraud aimed at their government benefits, and deployed military members victimized by identity theft face greater challenges in dealing with the aftermath of an information breach,” said Joseph Sarver, ID Care Specialist. “Our ID Care team has years of experience mitigating those risks and challenges with our comprehensive services. We are currently the largest provider of identity protection services to the U.S. federal government.”
From November 7 until December 31, 2017, ID Experts will offer a 25 percent lifetime discount on its MyIDCare identity protection services to veterans and active duty military members and their immediate families.
MyIDCare guards against all nine types of identity theft and promises 100 percent identity recovery in the event of a breach. To enroll in MyIDCare as a veteran or active-duty military member, www.myidcare.com/vets25.

Arlette Hart is the chief information security officer (CISO) at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As CISO of the FBI, she has a unique perspective. On the one hand, she is tasked with securing vast amounts of highly sensitive information. On the other, she has the inside track on the emerging cyber-threats, and some of the nation’s top law enforcement specialists are right there in her organization. When we asked her recently how the FBI approaches information security and privacy, she said the FBI faces the same challenges as every other organization. What is different is her very personal passion about preventing data breaches and identity theft, because as part of the FBI, she sees firsthand how victim’s lives are affected. She says, “When a criminal organization steals a million records, that makes the news, but when they steal an individual’s identity, it becomes personal. It affects lives. People feel violated in a way that you would never expect. That’s what we’re working to prevent.”
